Hornsey Town Hall Project Q&A's

What will the renewal cost?

It has been estimated that it will cost at least £15 million to restore the Town Hall, securing its long-term future and making it fit for purpose in the 21st century.

How can this money be raised?

Most of the money to renew the Town Hall will have to be raised from parts of the site that can be developed – the rear of the Town Hall, the car park, the Broadway Annexe and mews site.

By developing these parts of the site for housing (including affordable housing), all the capital raised will be used to restore and redevelop the Town Hall.

Even so, capital generated from developing the rear of the Town Hall is likely to be less than £10 million, not enough to restore the Town hall completely.

We are currently working with a professional fund-raiser to develop our fundraising strategy to raise the £5 or £6 million shortfall. We expect funds to come from grant-giving bodies but we will also be launching a major fundraising effort to secure sponsorship from commercial organisations and individuals.

Haringey Council announced earlier this year that it is to kick start the refurbishment of Hornsey Town Hall with funding of up to £6 million. The funding decision could see the refurbishment of this landmark Grade II* listed building as early as next year while the development of retail and housing complexes primarily at the rear of the Town Hall, and in the Broadway Annex and mews to the north of the town hall square.

The redevelopment site will be marketed separately, with the sale of that part of the site covering the council’s forward funding of the town hall refurbishment.
